Chamomile for Dogs – Calming Herb or Hype?

Did you know chamomile isn’t just for humans looking to wind down with a cup of tea? Yes that’s right. Not just for horses either :) This gentle, fragrant flower has long been used for its calming, anti-inflammatory, and digestive benefits—and yes, it's completely safe for dogs when used correctly.

Why we love chamomile at My Pet Life:

  • Naturally calming: Chamomile may help reduce stress, anxiety, and restlessness in dogs, especially during loud storms, fireworks, or travel.

  • Soothes the stomach: It’s also great for digestion, easing minor tummy upsets or gassy discomfort.

  • Skin support: Used topically (like in our soon to be released (!) paw soak), it can help soothe dry or irritated skin.

Is chamomile safe for dogs?

Yes, in moderation and when using dried, food-grade flowers (like we do). Avoid anything sweetened or blended with caffeine (like some teas)i i.e. don’t just crack open your tea bag at home and add it to your dogs food…and of course, always check with your vet if your pet has specific sensitivities.

How we use it:

  • In our Granola Bites – to help calm and settle dogs naturally.

  • In our Paw Soaks – to soothe sore or itchy paws after a long walk or muddy day.

Chamomile’s not just hype. It’s gentle, proven, and pup-approved - and that’s pup no matter their age - yes, new puppy owners, this might be a winning ingredient to help you get a more restful transition from those early stages…! (although we aren’t going to guarantee that…we know…we’ve been there…)
