🐾 Some Bunny Loves Carob: The Safe & Sweet Easter Treat for Dogs

As Easter approaches, many of us are surrounded by sweet temptations—chocolate bunnies, eggs, and festive desserts - and many of us want to spoil our fur babies as well over the holiday period, but while we’re unwrapping our favourite treats, it’s important to remember that chocolate is dangerous—even deadly—for our four-legged friends.

Why Chocolate Is Toxic to Dogs

Chocolate contains two substances that dogs can’t process well: theobromine and caffeine. Even small amounts can cause vomiting, diarrhoea, increased heart rate, seizures, and in severe cases, death. Dark chocolate and baking chocolate have the highest concentration of theobromine, but even milk chocolate can be harmful, especially for smaller breeds.

The Safe and Tasty Alternative: Carob

Enter carob—a naturally sweet, dog-safe alternative that looks and tastes similar to chocolate (but without the risks). Carob comes from the pod of the carob tree and is caffeine- and theobromine-free. It’s also a source of fibre and contains small amounts of calcium and iron—bonus!

At My Pet Life, we use carob in our granola treats to give your dog the joy of a ā€œchocolateyā€ flavour—minus the danger. It’s a delicious, wholesome way to include your pup in the Easter fun without putting their health at risk.
